Setup Instructions (iPhone — iOS 16+)

  1. 1

Install Brain Files as an app (required)

Open brainfiles.app in Safari on your iPhone, tap the Share button (box with arrow pointing up), then tap "Add to Home Screen". This makes it open full-screen like a native app.
Important: Sign in to Brain Files from the installed home screen app before setting up the Siri Shortcut. This ensures your login session is stored in the app. The shortcut will then open the app directly — if you haven't signed in yet, it will ask you to log in once, then resume your voice capture automatically.
  2. 2

    Open the Shortcuts app

It comes pre-installed on every iPhone. Search for "Shortcuts" in Spotlight if you can't find it.
  3. 3

    Create a new shortcut

Tap the + button in the top right corner to create a new shortcut.
  4. 4

    Add TWO 'Open URLs' actions

This shortcut needs two actions in sequence. Tap "Add Action", search for "Open URLs", and add it twice.

Action 1 — Set the intent (runs silently in background):

    Voice Mode:https://brainfiles.app/api/capture-intent?action=voice

Or for Stop & File: https://brainfiles.app/api/capture-intent?action=stop

Action 2 — Open the app:

    Open Brain Files:webapp://brainfiles.app
Action 1 silently tells the server "start the mic". Action 2 opens the installed app via webapp://. When the app loads, it sees the pending intent and auto-starts the microphone.
  5. 5

    Name it and tap Done

Tap the shortcut title at the very top (it may say "New Shortcut") and rename it to Brain Voice or Brain Done. Then tap Done.
No "Add to Siri" needed. Siri automatically knows all your shortcuts by name. Just say "Hey Siri, Brain Voice" and it opens the app and starts the mic instantly.
  6. 6

    Try it!

Say "Hey Siri, Hey Brain" — Brain Files will open directly to the capture box. Use "Hey Siri, Brain Voice" to start recording, and "Hey Siri, Brain Done" to stop and file it.
First time only: If Brain Files asks you to sign in, go ahead and log in. Your voice capture intent is remembered — after login the mic will start automatically.
On Android? The webapp:// scheme is iOS-only. Instead, use Google Assistant Routines with the URL https://brainfiles.app/capture — say "Hey Google, open Brain Files" and it will launch the installed PWA and start the mic.
